Adventure Staff
Enquiries concerning requests to join the Adventure Staff should be directed to
A number of vacancies exist on the staff for Scouters and ex-Scouts, 16 years or older. A reduced Adventure fee is payable to cover the cost of food. There is a special fee for staff who cater for themselves.
Staff within the age group 16 to 18 are to attach the Consent Form (Under 18 Years of Age Staff Consent and Indemnity Form) to the online application.
Mountain Rangers
Do you enjoy strenuous hiking in the mountains?
You can join the Staff as a Mountain Ranger and pay Staff rates to hike in the Cederberg mountains. There are a number of roles the Mountain Rangers play from accompanying a Patrol of less experienced participants to medical evacuations.
Base Leaders and Base Staff
Base Leaders and Base staff are encouraged to have a look at the ratings and see how bases were rated by the Scouts. Staff are reminded that the ratings are not intended to be a competition and no "outright base winner" is ever declared. The ratings are intended to tell the Adventure organisers and staff what was good and therefore could be repeated and where there is room for improvement. In addition to the ratings, comments by Scouts and Mountain Rangers are included with the Adventure organisers' responses in many cases.
Logistics Staff
Are you over the age of 21 with a drivers license and enjoy driving all weather in “wild country”?
If so then this is the role for you. You must have your own 4X4 or high ground clearance 2X4 vehicle which is one of the following:
- A bakkie capable of a 1000 kg payload.
- An SUV or double cab capable of carrying 5 scouts with their full packs, in seats with a seat belt.
- A vehicle with equipped with a towball or a NATO hitch would be an added bonus.
Fuel costs incurred while providing transport on Adventure business is covered by the Adventure budget and you will be re-imbursed.
Furthermore, it is preferable for those with a bakkie to arrive a few days before to assist in the deployment of base equipment to the bases and assist in their retrieval at the end. Those considering this role must be conversant with the SSA-Safe-Scouting-Policy-Practice-Note_Transport.
